This Privacy Policy explains what information VotumVela collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. By creating an account you agree to the practices described here.
Information We Collect
When you register we collect your email address and the shipping address you provide so that gifts can be delivered to you. If you import contacts to invite people to a list or event, we store the names and contact details you provide for that purpose. We also record technical information such as the IP address used to create your account, which helps us keep the service secure.
How We Use Your Information
We use your information to operate your registry, deliver gifts, communicate with you about your account, and protect the platform. We do not sell your personal information.
Service Providers We Use
We work with third-party service providers to operate VotumVela, including payment processing (Stripe, for marketplace purchases and seller payouts), email delivery (SendGrid), shipping labels (EasyPost), fraud and risk screening (MaxMind), and URL safety screening (Google Safe Browsing). When our AI-assisted product search feature is enabled, a limited version of your search query may be sent to a third-party AI provider to generate results. These providers receive only the information needed to perform their function and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
Sharing With Your Gift Circle
To make gift giving possible, your shipping address is shared with members of a gift-circle group you belong to so they can send gifts to you. It is shared only within groups you are part of and only for fulfilling gifts.
Authorized Coordinators
You may authorize a coordinator to help manage your lists and events. An authorized coordinator may view and act on the information needed for that role, including the shipping address used for gift delivery. You can remove a coordinator's access at any time from your account.
Guests and Share Links
You do not need an account to view a shared wish list or make a purchase from one. When you do, we use an essential cookie to recognize you as the same guest -- for example, so you can confirm or cancel your own reservation -- and, if you complete a purchase, we collect the name, email, and shipping details needed to fulfill it. Guest purchase details are handled the same way as a registered buyer's.
Child Profiles
Parents and guardians can create a child profile to build a wish list on a child's behalf. A child profile is not a standalone account -- it is managed entirely by the parent or guardian who created it, and any PIN-protected session used to view or add to a child's list does not collect information directly from the child beyond what the parent has already provided. VotumVela does not knowingly collect personal information directly from children.
Marketplace Sellers
Sellers on the VotumVela marketplace connect a Stripe account to receive payouts. Stripe collects and verifies the banking and identity information required to pay sellers directly -- VotumVela never sees or stores full bank account numbers. We do retain order, shipping, and payout summary information needed to run the marketplace and resolve disputes.
Browser Extension
The VotumVela browser extension lets you add a product to a wish list from the retailer's own page. When you sign in through the extension, your email and password are sent directly to our servers to authenticate you -- the extension does not store your password. Once signed in, the extension reads the product name, price, and image from the page you're viewing and sends that information to VotumVela only when you choose to add the item; it does not track your browsing otherwise. The extension also sends a client and version identifier with each request so we can support you if something goes wrong.
Text Message Notifications
If you opt in to SMS notifications, we send text messages to the phone number you provide for reminders and updates you've chosen to receive. Message and data rates may apply. You can opt out at any time by replying STOP, or by updating your notification preferences in your account.
Content Safety
Images uploaded to VotumVela or cached from a linked product are screened against PhotoDNA, a Microsoft/NCMEC service that detects known child sexual abuse material (CSAM). An image that matches is never shown to any user, and a confirmed match is reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children's CyberTipline as required by 18 U.S.C. 2258A. This screening applies to every image on the platform, regardless of who uploaded it.
Security and Fraud Prevention
We log account activity such as sign-ins, IP address, and key account changes to protect your account and the platform from fraud and abuse. We also screen new accounts and sensitive actions for risk signals, such as IP reputation, and record when you click through to a retailer link so we can maintain the affiliate relationships that keep VotumVela free for shoppers. This information is used for security and platform operation only.
Your Choices
You can review and update your profile, manage your notification preferences, and close your account from your account settings. Closing your account removes your information from active use, subject to records we must retain for legal and security purposes.
